Surah Az Zumar Ayat 3 Tafseer

Para 23 - وَ مَا لِیَ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

39.3

اَلَا لِلّٰهِ الدِّیْنُ الْخَالِصُؕ-وَ الَّذِیْنَ اتَّخَذُوْا مِنْ دُوْنِهٖۤ اَوْلِیَآءَۘ-مَا نَعْبُدُهُمْ اِلَّا لِیُقَرِّبُوْنَاۤ اِلَى اللّٰهِ زُلْفٰىؕ-اِنَّ اللّٰهَ یَحْكُمُ بَیْنَهُمْ فِیْ مَا هُمْ فِیْهِ یَخْتَلِفُوْنَ۬ؕ-اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا یَهْدِیْ مَنْ هُوَ كٰذِبٌ كَفَّارٌ(3)

Kanz ul Iman Kanz ul Irfan

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

Pay heed, worship is purely for Allah. And those who have taken helpers other than Him (they say), “We only worship them (idols) so that they may bring us closer to Allah.” [1] Surely, Allah will judge between them regrading that which they are disputing—Allah does not guide one who is a liar, deeply ungrateful.

Commentary

Perceiving someone as a means to Allah’s proximity is not polytheism because the Quran itself has expressed this command. However, considering the means to be a deity or to worship the means is unquestionably polytheism. The doctrine of intercession held by true Muslims is not polytheism. They do not consider the prophets عَـلَـيْهِمُ السَّلَام and the saints رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـه worthy of worship, nor do they worship them. Instead, they consider only Allah worthy of worship and only worship Him. The Prophets عَـلَـيْهِمُ السَّلَام and saints رَحِمَهُمُ الـلّٰـه are considered to be Allah’s chosen people, and a means to Him.
