Surah Hud Ayat 101 Tafseer

Para 12 - وَ مَا مِنْ دَآبَّةٍ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

11.101

وَ مَا ظَلَمْنٰهُمْ وَ لٰـكِنْ ظَلَمُوْۤا اَنْفُسَهُمْ فَمَاۤ اَغْنَتْ عَنْهُمْ اٰلِهَتُهُمُ الَّتِیْ یَدْعُوْنَ مِنْ دُوْنِ اللّٰهِ مِنْ شَیْءٍ لَّمَّا جَآءَ اَمْرُ رَبِّكَؕ-وَ مَا زَادُوْهُمْ غَیْرَ تَتْبِیْبٍ(101)

Kanz ul Iman Kanz ul Irfan

English translation of Kanz-ul-Imaan

And We did not oppress them, but it is they who wronged themselves; their deities, whom they worshipped other than Allah, did not therefore benefit them in the least when your Lord's command (i.e. punishment) came; and they (the false deities) did not increase anything for them other than destruction.

Commentary

One interpretation of this verse is that Allah Almighty did not oppress them by punishing them. Rather, they oppressed themselves though disbelief and transgression. Another meaning is that Divine retribution for a nation is not oppression but justice; when people resort to disbelief and sin oppressing themselves, they incur punishment due to their actions.
