Surah Yasin Ayat 48-49-50 Translation Tafseer

Para 23 - وَ مَا لِیَ

سورة يس

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

36.48-49-50

وَ یَقُوْلُوْنَ مَتٰى هٰذَا الْوَعْدُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِیْنَ(48) مَا یَنْظُرُوْنَ اِلَّا صَیْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً تَاْخُذُهُمْ وَ هُمْ یَخِصِّمُوْنَ(49) فَلَا یَسْتَطِیْعُوْنَ تَوْصِیَةً وَّ لَاۤ اِلٰۤى اَهْلِهِمْ یَرْجِعُوْنَ۠ (50)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

And they say, “When will this promise come to pass, if you are truthful?” They are only waiting for a ˹piercing˺ Cry which will seize them while they are disputing. [1] So they will not be able to make a will, nor return to their kin. [1]

Commentary

This means that people will be engaged in their worldly matters and the Day of Judgement will arrive suddenly.

The Makkan disbelievers enquired about the Day of Judgement, but they were not informed of its time, as this is contrary to the wisdom of Allah Almighty. Therefore, instead of spending time in trying to discover when the Day of Judgement will take place and its date, people should spend time trying to prepare for it. In this short life, one should perform the actions that will lead to success on the Day of Judgement.
