Para 21 - اُتْلُ مَاۤ اُوْحِیَ

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

33.13

وَ اِذْ قَالَتْ طَّآىٕفَةٌ مِّنْهُمْ یٰۤاَهْلَ یَثْرِبَ لَا مُقَامَ لَكُمْ فَارْجِعُوْاۚ-وَ یَسْتَاْذِنُ فَرِیْقٌ مِّنْهُمُ النَّبِیَّ یَقُوْلُوْنَ اِنَّ بُیُوْتَنَا عَوْرَةٌ ﳍ وَ مَا هِیَ بِعَوْرَةٍۚۛ-اِنْ یُّرِیْدُوْنَ اِلَّا فِرَارًا(13)

English translation of Kanz-ul-Irfan

And when a group among them said, “Opeople of Madinah! [1] There is no place for you ˹here˺ so return”; and a group among them was seeking leave from the Prophet saying, “Indeed our homes are exposed”, and yet they were not exposed; they only desired to flee.

Commentary

The hypocrites referred to Madinah as Yathrib and Allah Almighty mentioned their statement in the Holy Quran. It is necessary for Muslims to avoid the term Yathrib since this has been prohibited in a Hadith and the Noble Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم disliked for Madinah to be referred to as Yathrib as its meaning is not suitable. Imām Aḥmad Razā Khān رَحْمَةُ الـلّٰـهِ عَلَيْه states: “It is impermissible, prohibited and a sin to refer to Madinah as Yathrib and the one doing so is a sinner.” (Al-Fatāwā Al-Razawiyyah, vol. 21, p. 116)
