Surah Al Baqarah Ayat 91 Tafseer

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

2.91

وَ اِذَا قِیْلَ لَهُمْ اٰمِنُوْا بِمَاۤ اَنْزَلَ اللّٰهُ قَالُوْا نُؤْمِنُ بِمَاۤ اُنْزِلَ عَلَیْنَا وَ یَكْفُرُوْنَ بِمَا وَرَآءَهٗۗ-وَ هُوَ الْحَقُّ مُصَدِّقًا لِّمَا مَعَهُمْؕ-قُلْ فَلِمَ تَقْتُلُوْنَ اَنْۢبِیَآءَ اللّٰهِ مِنْ قَبْلُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّؤْمِنِیْنَ(91)

Kanz ul Iman Kanz ul Irfan

English translation of Kanz-ul-Imaan

And when it is said to them that 'Believe in what Allah has revealed,' so, they say, 'We believe in that which has been revealed upon us and reject the rest.' Whereas, that (i.e. the Qur'aan) is the truth; confirming what is with them (i.e. the previous Heavenly Books). Say you (O Beloved); that 'Why did you then martyr the previous Prophets, if you had believed in your Book (i.e. the Tawrah)?'

Commentary

The Israelites who lived in the era of the Prophet صَلَّى الـلّٰـهُ عَلَيْهِ وَاٰلِهٖ وَسَلَّم had not martyred the Prophets, however, they accepted the action of the murderers and would glorify them, so they were included among the murderers.
