Surah Al Ghashiyah Translation

88.1

هَلْ اَتٰىكَ حَدِیْثُ الْغَاشِیَةِﭤ(1)

Certainly, the news has come to you of that calamity which will engulf (everything).

88.2

وُجُوْهٌ یَّوْمَىٕذٍ خَاشِعَةٌۙ (2)

Many faces (i.e. the faces of all the disbelievers) will be disgraced on that Day.

88.3

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌۙ (3)

Labouring (uselessly by worshipping false deities), striving hard.

88.4

تَصْلٰى نَارًا حَامِیَةًۙ (4)

(Yet they are) going into the Blazing Fire.

88.5

تُسْقٰى مِنْ عَیْنٍ اٰنِیَةٍﭤ(5)

Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring.

88.6

لَیْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ اِلَّا مِنْ ضَرِیْعٍۙ (6)

There is no food for them except the thorns of fire.

88.7

لَّا یُسْمِنُ وَ لَا یُغْنِیْ مِنْ جُوْ عٍﭤ(7)

Which neither fatten nor satisfy hunger.

88.8

وُجُوْهٌ یَّوْمَىٕذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌۙ (8)

Many faces (i.e. of the believers) will be in serenity on that Day.

88.9

لِّسَعْیِهَا رَاضِیَةٌۙ (9)

Rejoicing over their efforts.

88.10

فِیْ جَنَّةٍ عَالِیَةٍۙ (10)

In a lofty Garden.
